Content Maps

In order to explore the intertextuality between various Pressible.org blogs, I’ve started to build a system to try to classify subjects, people, and relationships mentioned in posts.

Using a tool built in Processing, I can take any text (ie. a Pressible post) and create a ‘map’ of it’s major elements. Here is a simple map from a blog post:

This tool uses OpenCalais, a web service from Reuters which is meant to enable semantic classification of web content.

Of course, this system could be used for any type of text. For example, here’s a content map of an excerpt from James Joyce’s Ulysses:
